Built in 1295 it formed part of King Edward I's North Wales castles. It is in remarkably good condition owing to the fact that it has been occupied for the entire duration of its life. However, this has also resulted in many alterations having been made including decidedly un-castle-like windows and stately rooms. Nonetheless, it has one region of the castle preserved in it earliest form including the dungeon (less exciting that it might sound as it’s just a large empty room underground). In addition, it has an elegant dining room with period paintings and furnishings. In addition, they are enthusiastic to point out, it has a rather special main staircase who’s design is apparently unusual. Outside the walls of the castle are well groomed gardens including flowers and a few ornaments.
It is currently maintained my the National Trust.
